Great Time

Great Time

Definitely a great moment where I had a great time and enjoy it to the max would be last’s year visit to Las Vegas. Although it was not the first time visiting Las Vegas, I must say that it was the best of all. We decided to go without actually planning it ahead of time, it was completely unplanned. We got to Las Vegas around 12 pm; it must have been in the 100’s because it was crazy hot. We started looking for a place to stay right away and luckily for us we found a room fairly quick in the main strip at Caesar’s Palace. We were all starving, so we went looking for something to eat.  After looking around we decided to eat at the buffet at Rio Hotel, not sure if it was because I was starving, but everything I tasted was super delicious. After eating like pigs we went to try our luck in the casinos and we were indeed very lucky because my girlfriend and I won 2300 dollars. Who wouldn’t be happy after winning that money, I don’t know if it was because we won or just because everything was so sporadic that made this trip so much fun. We went around trying new places in the strip and also went to a couple of shows (we had some extra money to spend thanks to the slot machinesJ).  We spend the whole weekend there and we sure were exhausted after the weekend came to an end. A lot of great memories and definitely fun times that we would remember for a long time, they are down to earth people who always find a way to have a great time no matter what.

Important People

Important People

I would be writing about three people who have been important to me and whom have helped me become a better person. The first of them is my dad Gilberto, a tall man with curly hair and a really strong character. He has been an important person in my life not only because he is my dad, but because he has taught me many things throughout my life. He taught me that family is the most precious gift and that sometimes you have to sacrifice many things to support your family. I have learned from him to never give up and to work hard.

The second person that has been really important in my life is my brother. His name is Gabriel, an extremely shy person, but with a tremendous generous hearth. He was the one that got me into playing soccer because we would always go play when we were kids. I really admire him because he was able to overcome an addiction to drugs. I know he was not a bad person, but drugs had a negative effect on him. He was going in the wrong path, but was able to overcome it and straighten his life. He has been important because I have learned that no matter what there is always hope ahead.

Lastly, I would mention my girlfriend Rebecca, a beautiful woman who has definitely been a blessed to me. She is tall (she is always on her heels) with long hair and an amazing body. She has a great personality; she is really outgoing and has always something that would make you laugh. Over the past three years we have been to many different places, just to mention a few. Las Vegas a couple times, Ensenada, Yucatan, Cancun and hopefully Europe next year. She has been really important not only because I have found a great woman, but because she has motivated me to go back to school and become a better person. I am just thankful to have these three people in my life, each of them have made an impact in my life and have help me become the person  I am today.

Chago Ahogadas

There’s this Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles that has the best “tortas ahogadas” or salsa-drowned pork sandwiches, Chago Ahogadas. This is actually a franchise of an actual restaurant back in Guadalajara, so you know you are getting an original recipe torta ahogada. Tortas ahogadas is a native dish from my home state of Guadalajara, Jalisco made with a salsa made of tomato, ground and habanero pepper. These are the real deal they are authentic and taste just like the ones I have try back in Mexico. For those that like Mexican food and especially for those who like spicy food this will definitely satisfy your taste. The salsa use in the tortas is made of habanero pepper so you better watch out when eating one. They also have an authentic native drink called Tejuino, which is a cold drink made of ferment corn (masa) usually served with ice and lots of lemon juice. The only bad thing is that is an hour drive to get there, even though I think is all worth it.

The restaurant has a total Mexican atmosphere with Mariachi music in the background and paintings all over the walls. The service is great, the times that I have been there we always get the best service; they are always really polite and make you feel home. I just wish they had a restaurant near Oxnard, I have try tortas ahogadas around here and they don’t taste nothing like the ones from there. If you are that kind that likes to try new food I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Just remember; just be careful because it would burn you a lot…. this tortas are super spicy, but super delicious as well.

FAST FOOD NATION

Fast Food Nation

The book “Fast Food Nation” written by Eric Schlosser has definitely affected me after reading it. I wasn’t aware of all the practices they have in the meat market industry. For some reason I always thought that these meat companies had to go through constant inspections and that they had better practices. I think is sad to know how they really produce the meat that we eat at our fast food restaurants. Just to imagine and picture the way animals are killed, the brutality and abuse these poor animals have to go through has changed the way I see fast food restaurants now. I have never been a fast food lover, and now after reading fast food Nation I think I am going to think twice before I eat a hamburger. I know that for some people fast food is the only alternative they have due to lack of time, but I think that if more people were aware of the way their hamburgers are produced, they will do something about it. Personally, I will at least try to have better eating habits, because now every time I think about fast food these vivid pictures of how the animals are killed come to my mind.
