Fast Food
I was born in another country, in a
small town so fast food was never really part of our culture. My mom would
always cook something fresh for us; we were used to eating pure homemade food
almost every day. We would rarely go eat
to a restaurant, and even if we did it would be something that was fresh. We
didn’t have any fast food restaurant in our town; in fact I have never been to
a McDonalds or any kind of fast food restaurant until I came to this country. I
can totally see the difference between my hometown and the style of living here
in the U.S. Here, we live a really fast pace style of living, and logically the
easiest thing to do for most people is to just drive to a drive thru where you
now you can get something in less than five minutes. I still remember the first time I had a
hamburger from McDonalds, I must say that it was delicious. We were on our way
to my uncle’s house; we had just got here from Mexico. I remember I was tired after being in a bus
for almost 38 hours, we stopped somewhere near San Diego to have something
quick since we were all super hungry. That’s when I was first introduced to
McDonalds; I remember telling my uncle to get me a Big Mac. Can you imagine the
feeling of trying this tasty looking hamburger? I totally loved it specially
their fries, I thought they were just delicious.
Fast food became part of my
culture, especially because I got a job at a McDonalds when I was a junior in
High School. I would literally eat McDonalds every single day at work since I
would work six days per week. I worked there for two years until I graduated
from High School, so for two whole years I ate McDonalds. At first I would
always get Big Macs or double cheese burgers, but I got tired of it. I knew
that eating fast food was not healthy at all, but it was kind of addicting and
convenience. I still consume fast food every now and then, but rarely go to
McDonalds anymore. I usually go to subway, especially because there is subway
right across work. But, since a couple months I being trying to pack a lunch to
work to avoid eating out, I don’t think is a good habit to eat that much fast
food, but I know that sometimes we have no other choice because we are always
running from one place to another and don’t have that much time in our hands.
